MHS receives international award for outstanding commitment to STEM education

Mahwah High School was selected as a 2024-25 STEM School of Excellence by the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association (ITEEA). This prestigious annual award recognizes schools that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to providing students with a robust STEM education program.

Mahwah High School shined through ITEEA’s rigorous application process by highlighting its Visual/Performing Arts and Integrated Design Festival. In addition, MHS provides science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) opportunities for students through its Career Pathways Elective Program.

“Our artisans, engineers, creators, and multimedia artists amaze our school community with their skill, talent, and commitment to the imaginative and innovative process,” said MHS Principal John P. Pascale. “Staff members work diligently to cultivate student talent and to guide cross curricular study, as evidenced by the exhibition. Students embrace this opportunity to curate and showcase their respective talents.”

MHS teachers Daniel Catizone and Andrew Coe attended the ITEEA 2025 Conference held in St. Louis, Mo., in April, as the school was recognized with a STEM School of Excellence banner.

This is the second time MHS has been recognized by ITEEA. In 2023, the school was lauded for its broad offerings in STEAM – which includes arts along with science, technology, engineering and math. ITEEA is a professional organization for technology, innovation, design and engineering educators. Its mission is to advance technological and engineering capabilities for all by nurturing professionalism, growth and opportunities in the education community.
