Our Town
Mahwah, a sprawling, diverse community, covers approximately 26.5 square miles in northwest Bergen County and is experiencing new housing and commercial development. A major segment of the population commutes to New York City and surrounding areas. It shares boundaries with Upper Saddle River, Ramsey, Allendale, Wyckoff, Franklin Lakes and Oakland in Bergen County, Ringwood in Passaic County, New Jersey, and with Suffern, New York.
The Township consists of a business and municipal center, surrounded by some industrial and mostly residential or rural areas. Housing is varied, ranging from the older, more established area of West Mahwah and Cragmere, to the newly developed areas of Masonicus and Fardale. The Township is experiencing major industrial/commercial and residential growth. Residential developments presently in progress or planned over the next few years include a considerable number of townhouses, condominiums or single-family homes.
The Township and schools cooperate in providing an active and successful sports program. In addition, Darlington County Park and Campgaw Reservation, located within our borders, provide year-round recreational facilities. Mahwah's surroundings and convenient location have attracted many prominent businesses to locate within its borders. They include Sharp Electronics, Stryker, Jaguar, United Parcel Service and Dial America. Mahwah is known as a good place to live and work.
